Supernatural the Animation project is now streaming a 34-second teaser trailer. The acclaimed anime studio MADHOUSE (Death Note, Paprika, Vampire Hunter D, Summer Wars) is producing the previously announced 22-episode anime for Warner Brothers.
Shigeyuki Miya (Lupin III: Green vs Red, Aoi Bungaku Series, Buzzer Beater) and Atsuko Ishizuka (Aoi Bungaku Series) are co-directing the project. Warner Home Video will ship Supernatural the Animation on Blu-ray and DVD in Japan in two boxes on January 12 and April 6, 2011.

The original live-action series follows the Winchester brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) as they hunt creatures and other supernatural phenomena across the American landscape. The series premiered on The WB network in the United States in 2005, and it will enter its sixth season on The WB’s replacement network, The CW, this fall.
Padalecki and Ackles confirmed at Comic-Con International last month that they are contributing to the dubbing of the anime along with their Japanese dubbing counterparts Yuya Uchida (Soul Eater’s Dr. Franken Stein, Naruto Shippūden’s Rinji) as Sam and Hiroki Touchi (Trinity Blood’s Abel Nightroad, Bokurano’s Kokkpelli) as Dean.

As expected, Josh Hartnett and Melissa George have not returned for this sequel, and neither has director David Slade. Kiele Sanchez (Lost,A Perfect Getaway) is taking over the role of Stella, and the cast also includes Harold Perrineau and Mia Kirshner. Director Ben Ketai, who previously did the web series 30 Days of Night: Dust to Dust, has stepped in for Slade, and for the most part the visual style of the original seems to be intact. Hits DVD and Blu-ray on October 5th 2010.

Summer Glau, the actress from The Firefly and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles star is providing the voice for Supergirl in the upcoming animated movie Superman/Batman: Apocalypse (out September 28 on DVD, Blu-ray, on demand and digital download). In the film, the latest in a Warner Bros.-produced series based on popular DC Comics stories, Glau plays Superman’s cousin Kara, a mysterious survivor of the doomed planet Krypton who shows up on Earth. Tim Daly and Kevin Conroy reprise their roles as Superman and Batman, respectively, from the characters’ animated series in the ’90s and a previous DC movie, last year’s Superman/Batman: Public Enemies.

Apocalypse is based on a 2004 comic book arc, written by former Heroes producer Jeph Loeb, which reintroduced Supergirl into the DC Comics universe. ‘I thought in the comic that Jeph Loeb had done a really good job of sticking to the basics of the origin story, but putting enough twists on it to give it a fresh feel,’; says executive producer Bruce Timm, widely considered the dean of superhero animation. Unlike the rocket that brought her cousin to Earth, Kara’s pod was delayed in its arrival, leaving her in suspended animation until landing. When she wakes up she is not terribly happy to learn that Earth’s yellow sun gives her powers far beyond those of mortal women. Early on in the story she just wants to fit in,” Timm says. “Unlike most people who suddenly attain superpowers, she’s terrified of them. She doesn’t want to shoot lasers out of her eyes and be able to lift buildings with her pinky.”

Glau, an animation novice who is the fifth Serenity star Timm has worked with (following Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, Gina Torres and Morena Baccarin), quickly got a handle on the role. “It was a fun part for her to play because it wasn’t one-note, Timm says. ‘She could be young and bratty, like a typical teenager, and then show a little bit more maturity, then get feisty, then scared. She’s got quite a gamut of emotions to act out.’

The movie is directed by Craig Moss, whose only other claim to fame is a 1998 short entitled Saving Ryan’s Privates.  The movie’s only distributor thus far (according to IMDB) is the home entertainment arm of Fox. And considering its full cast of unknowns, I don’t suspect we’ll be seeing this in your local moving picture house.

JCsemiblurryCBmikeVoicing Lex isn’t Brown’s only upcoming starring role. Fans will get a healthy dose of Brown on large and small screens in the coming months as he appears in both the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street and in the Matt Damon vehicle The Informant!, as well as starring in ABC’s primetime law office drama, The Deep End.

Brown was cast as a villain in his very first theatrical role opposite Sean Penn in Bad Boys, and then forever sealed his place in fantasy villainy as The Kurgan in Highlander. Before playing an immortal, though, Brown etched his name in cult classic history as Rawhide in The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension.

Beyond Highlander, Brown is regularly recognized from his standout performance as Captain Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption, as the centerpiece of HBO’s Carnivale as Brother Justin Crowe, and to fanboys across the planet as gung-ho Sgt. Zim in Starship Troopers.

4983656_tmlWhile he has voiced nearly 500 animated episodes and films, Brown is best known by the younger audience as Mr. Krabs in SpongeBob SquarePants. He is widely recognized as the quintessential Lex Luthor in Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League/Justice League Unlimited, and he has scored kudos for his voicing of Mr. Freeze in The Batman, George Stacy/Rhino in The Spectacular Spider-Man, Long Feng in Avatar: The Last Airbender, Captain Black in Jackie Chan
Adventures, and Mister Sinister in Wolverine and the X-Men. His voice credits, to list just a few, include roles in Phineaus and Ferb, Ben 10: Alien Force, Kim Possible, Duck Dodgers, Teen Titans, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command and Gargoyles.

Brown made his TV debut in an episode of the The Dukes of Hazzard, and has since been seen in primetime guest appearances and recurring roles on series as varied as Law & Order, ER, Lost, Star Trek: Enterprise, The Practice, The Outer Limits, Tales from the Crypt and China Beach.

The story revolves around El Superbeasto (Tom Papa), a washed up mexican wrestler who must fight the evil Dr. Satan (voiced by Paul Giamatti), while the art style looks like something in between Ren & Stimpy and Spongebob Squarepants (which kind of makes sense considering that co-director Doug Lawrence worked on both of those shows). The DVD and Blu-ray will contain deleted and alternate scenes plus a Superbeasto Contra Animatico feature. Look for it in stores on September 22nd 2009
